It’s time travel. This time you dare to be a little risky and take control of your next adventure, almost like you’re the most experienced backpacker. Take a few maps, you get in the car, and everything is great. Sure, until you need to use them. At that moment I regret not having opted for the GPS.
If you happen to see a map that you do not know if the right or vice versa and do not see more than strange hieroglyphics on each line that crosses it, it’s time to meet basic guidelines for use with “dignity” in your journey. For more team-art GPS and guides those who have, you never know when your skill is needed to read a map.
But the goal is not to stress you, let’s go step by step. If your knowledge is zero on this topic do not worry, you come a little closer to that “mysterious” world of maps.
The first thing you need to distinguish, is that not all the information you need is compressed into a single map. For this there are various types to help you on a specific purpose. So, today you will learn what some of them and what you’ll find basic symbols. I leave you below with their main representatives.
Road map
This is the first map which should be familiar. Without doubt the most used for every trip. This records the system of roads, railways, roads and streets, differentiating them from each other by a system of lines according to their thickness denoted a category.
So we have that thick lines indicate roads, while the streets are described as fine lines.
Also present important information for your journey, as by signs indicating the location of airports, restaurants and major hotels, tourist sites, hospitals, and others.
Political Map
This variety, contain several lines diagrams indicating the boundaries and limits of government areas. Which means, that contains the record of cities, regions, states and countries.
Here you will find a series of dots that indicate either the capital of an area or designate those cities with higher populations.
Physical map
As its name suggests, describes the various physical, natural and geographical features of an area. Using a physical map of the location you lakes and rivers, represented by blue colors, mountainous regions, represented by shades of brown, as well as small icons that refer to forests, caves, beaches, etc..
Weather map
Finally we found this map. Use color coding and other signs, under which you can find the specifications of the types and variety of climate in different areas.
The average precipitation levels are referred to with colors according to their magnitude. Green indicates the presence of average rainfall, while the brown areas with low rainfall identify.
You will also know the temperature levels. Shades of red indicate areas with high temperatures, while blue and white designate places with extremely low average temperatures.
